"Us nature mystics got to stick together" - Edward Abbey
The name Wildflower Stew came to me one day when I was living in a beautiful, impossibly remote place, and realized that my food supplies were running very very low. I looked up and there, all around me, was a riot of wildflowers and I thought to myself, a bit sarcastically, wildflower stew! At the time, the subtitle to that was "you can't eat the view." But the natural world does feed us in a way nothing else can.
I have been an activist publisher, writer, artist and grassroots rabble rouser for the better part of 35 years. These days I focus my writing on reminding people what it’s like to live in harmony with the natural world through this website and my blog at http://goodwordswan.wildflowerstew.com Everyone has a place somewhere inside that links them to the natural world. I believe it is an integral part of our makeup to want to be in harmony with the forces of nature.
Even in the most artificial urban environment, the natural world speaks to us, the sky overhead, the wind, the rain and the snow - the weeds growing up through the cracks in the parking lot! There is the force of life it's own self that can’t be tabulated, sold off, or claimed for profit. That, I believe, is where our power lies and what will motivate us to build a saner world for our children.
